But what if issues arise between appointments that have you a bit worried?<\/p>\n<p>Here are nine symptoms that warrant a trip to the gynecologist as soon as possible<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Painful periods<\/strong><br \/>\nIt could point to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.webmd.com\/women\/endometriosis\/endometriosis-causes-symptoms-treatment\">endometriosis<\/a>(when extra tissue builds up in your uterus and causes bleeding and swelling) or\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.webmd.com\/women\/uterine-fibroids\/default.htm\">fibroids<\/a>\u00a0(growths of muscle tumor cells and tissue in the uterus).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Vaginal bleeding\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.webmd.com\/women\/vaginal-bleeding-after-birth-when-to-call-doctor\">Vaginal bleeding-<\/a>\u00a0is normal for women to have spotting in\u00a0the first few months after starting certain\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.webmd.com\/sex\/birth-control\/default.htm\">birth control methods<\/a>\u00a0and to experience heavier periods as they near menopause. But if you have unexpected vaginal bleeding \u2014 for example, after menopause \u2014 then you should see a gynecologist to find out why.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Starting or resuming Sex<\/strong><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.webmd.com\/sex-relationships\/default.htm\">sex<\/a>&#8211; women need to be aware of the risks from unprotected sex- e.g pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections. Certain\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.webmd.com\/sexual-conditions\/default.htm\">sexually transmitted\u00a0<\/a>diseases raise\u00a0your chances of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.webmd.com\/infertility-and-reproduction\/default.htm\">infertility<\/a>\u00a0and cancer. Women affected by HPV infection are at greater risk of getting\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.webmd.com\/cancer\/default.htm\">cancer<\/a>\u00a0from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.webmd.com\/sexual-conditions\/hpv-genital-warts\/hpv-virus-information-about-human-papillomavirus\">HPV<\/a>\u00a0HPV is the most common sexually transmitted virus. Vaccines are available for HPV \u00a0and these can be taken beforehand.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Bumps and\u00a0Blister<\/strong><br \/>\nBumps and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.webmd.com\/skin-problems-and-treatments\/understanding-blisters-basics\">blisters<\/a>.\u00a0Might be a genital wart, which is a small swelling caused by an STD. A small but painful blister that vanishes in a couple of weeks but returns could be\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.webmd.com\/genital-herpes\/default.htm\">genital herpes<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Breast<\/strong><br \/>\nA gynecologist can advise whether a new lump, sensitivity, or discharge in your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.webmd.com\/women\/picture-of-the-breasts\">Breast<\/a>\u00a0 is cause for concern about cancer. Most of the time, these conditions are not cancerous.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Vaginal odor\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\nIf\u00a0you notice a smell coming from your vagina that is particularly unpleasant, You might be dealing with bacterial growth or a vaginal infection that needs prescription medication to cure.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Discomfort during sex<\/strong><strong>.<\/strong>\u00a0If you experience dryness during sex, or have pain or bleeding during sex you need to see your doctor<\/li>\n<li><strong>Low\u00a0Libido<\/strong><br \/>\nLow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.webmd.com\/sex\/features\/sex-drive-how-do-men-women-compare\">libido<\/a> sometimes a medical condition or medication you take reduces your interest in sex as a side effect. Work or family\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.webmd.com\/balance\/stress-management\/default.htm\">stress<\/a>\u00a0can also reduce sexual drive.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Incontinence<\/strong><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.webmd.com\/urinary-incontinence-oab\/default.htm\">Incontinence-<\/a>\u00a0Accidental leakage of urine is\u00a0more common in the 50s and 60s and after menopause. Also, it can happen after\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.webmd.com\/guide\/delivery-methods\">childbirth<\/a>, especially if the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.webmd.com\/parenting\/baby\/default.htm\">baby<\/a>\u00a0is large or the doctor needs to use forceps or a vacuum.
